Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has paid tribute to his senior fullback Ashley Cole.

On Tuesday, Cole claimed still owed Mourinho because he did not feel he had produced his best football in the aftermath of the transfer but the manager responded by hailing the 32-year-old full-back as the "perfect" professional.

"He owes me nothing," said Mourinho. "He gave me everything when I was here. He came to Chelsea not to work for me but to work for Chelsea and he has done that for many consecutive years.

"It's fantastic and I'm happy that all the problems we had at the time, because things were not done in the best way, at the end of the day, Chelsea got trophies and he has been a fantastic player.

"He was not my player for a long time but he is the kind of player that you are always wishing can be your player again. And to be the fair, the guy now is over 30, but with the way he trains and the way he plays, the birth certificate means nothing."
