Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho hit out at football's "conventions" after his dismissal by ref Chris Foy yesterday.
Mourinho was sent off late into defeat at Aston Villa for approaching the ref.
Mourinho said: "I tried to speak with Mr Foy twice. I tried on the pitch and I tried in the dressing rooms. He refused."
Reminded about the convention that managers should not approach referees for 30 minutes, Mourinho said: "This is not about conventions, it's about common sense. If you see someone out of control, OK: convention.
"But if you see someone is calm, is not screaming, it's not the convention. Simple people from football don't need conventions."
