Chelsea boss Guus Hiddink has revealed the politics behind team selections at former clubs Fenerbahce and Real Madrid.
Hiddink said: "I have experience in several countries of how it works. They don't say 'You must play this player or that player.' They say: 'He's good, huh?'
"And then I know. I remember 10 years ago at Real Madrid I clashed with the president there over players. He tried to pick the team, tried to make me play certain players.
"I would not and we clashed. Yes, I knew the consequences and I didn't like the consequences. I left. I worked in Fenerbahce in 1990 where there is a board of 15 to 20 people.
"Each board member had signed three players. When we came to play on Saturday, on Thursday they came to me one by one.
"On the back of their boxes of cigars there were their three players mentioned and a few words like 'Maybe you should think . . .' First one, then another one came. It's a nice game."
