Chelsea boss Hiddink: Drogba no prima donna

Chelsea boss Guus Hiddink has hailed the commitment and work ethic of Didier Drogba. Hiddink said: "Look at Drogba and the defensive work he puts in - particularly at set-pieces. Drogba does his dirty work defending corners, etc. That shows he doesn't have an attitude problem. If he had turned around and said, 'that's not my job' that would have been different.

"But look at what he puts in - he is defending with a lot of courage.

"If a player wasn't doing what we were asking ask him to do for the benefit of the team then we would have a fight."

Hiddink had Romario in his time as manager of PSV. He recalled: "He had one ability - when his manager got nervous before a big game, he would tell him, 'calm down, I'll sort it out'.

"He would usually come up with something.

"But, in a team, we needed someone in midfield working harder for a player like him to thrive.

"Romario is like a puma who is sleeping - then, all of a sudden, he strikes. The rest of the team have to work a bit harder for him. But he delivers what they cannot.

"On the other hand, he needs those other players to work for him. So, sometimes, we put him in defensive midfield so he knew what they were going through.

"They were working very, very hard. We would have a midfielder playing up front who couldn't score a single goal, even without a goalkeeper! That created a mutual respect. But I didn't have to do that here."
