Chelsea boss: Drogba can have positive impact despite African Cup failure

Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas is confident that Didier Drogba can return with positive affect after coming up short in the African Cup of Nations.

The 33-year old striker was at the forefront as Ivory Coast lost the final to Zambia on penalties on Sunday, missing a spot-kick in regular time of the scoreless draw before scoring in the shootout.

Despite the failure, Villas-Boas is expecting Drogba to be hungry for success upon his return as well as providing competition to Fernando Torres who failed to score in his absence.

"Drogba gives us another solution up front, we've used Torres in all the games since he went away, but he will add competition," Villas-Boas said.

"I spoke to him after they lost in the final and, of course it was a big disappointment, they had a good chance to win it but penalties is always a lottery.

"He is a strong character and he can have a big impact for us."
