Chelsea boss Roberto di Matteo insists he's not trying to phase out John Terry.

Terry sat out Chelsea's Champions League victory over Shakhtar Donetsk, but Di Matteo insists the defender remains central to his plans.

"Absolutely, John Terry is still our captain and leader, and I think he will be playing for many, many more years," said Di Matteo.

"He remains a fantastic defender and leader."
