Chelsea boss Conte: Why Chalobah debut was important

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has explained handing Nathaniel Chalobah his debut in their EFL Cup win over Leicester City.

The midfielder, 21, ended a long wait to make his first appearance for the club he joined as a youngster back in 2005 by coming on for summer signing Michy Batshuayi in the 80th minute.

"I want to have the whole squad, not only 11, 12, or 13 players, and create good competition," he said.

"For example, today I'm pleased for Chalobah. It's his first game.

"He is a product of the academy and I am very happy for him. I want to show if someone deserves, he plays."
