Chelsea boss Conte warns Loftus-Cheek, Abraham: They were friendlies lads...

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is happy with the progress of Tammy Abraham and Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

On-loan Swansea striker Abraham and Crystal Palace midfielder Loftus-Cheek both made their England debuts this week.

"I was very happy for these call-ups in the national team," Conte said, "but don't forget that these were friendly games. I was a coach for a national team and this is the right moment to find out, and to give an opportunity to young players. And don't forget Gareth Southgate was their coach at England Under-21 level and he knows these young players very well.

"I will be very happy for Southgate to call them up for the World Cup. It would be a great opportunity for them, and it will mean they are really ready to play for a great team.

"There are two different moments. If you call on a young player during World Cup qualifiers, this is one thing. If you call him for a friendly when you are already sure you are in the World Cup, this is another thing because you can do an experiment and there is different pressure. It is two different situations; one is when you can and the result is not important, but for a club the result is always important."
