Chelsea boss Conte insists he always respects the opposition

Chelsea coach Antonio Conte has defended his behaviour on the touchline and insisted he will always have respect for an opponent, reports the London Evening Standard.

Conte's actions in the technical area have come under intense scrutiny this season, but earned even more attention after Chelsea's 4-0 win over Manchester United on Sunday when he incurred the displeasure of counterpart Jose Mourinho.

When asked if he should tone down his mannerisms to make sure he doesn't incite West Ham fans, he said: "I think that everyone must show respect for me, for my work, for my job. Every game I show myself, not only in one game.

"I have history and you can see my past, my behaviour. It's normal - I'm a passionate man. I showed this in the past.

"I want to stay close with my players, to play with them and also in situations when we are suffering. But I always show respect for the opponent and my history shows this."

When pressed if he had regrets about what had happened with Mourinho and whether he should make an apology, he added: "I think in this moment it's not important to talk again about a game that for me, for my players, for the club is the past.

"United is the past, now it's important to be focused on tomorrow's game against West Ham.
