Chelsea boss Antonio Conte was coy yesterday over the prospect of moving for Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk.

The Dutchman is effectively up for sale after being dropped by Saints manager Mauricio Pellegrino for yesterday's defeat.

And Conte refused to rule out a January move.

“I do not talk about other players but I like him as a player," he said after Chelsea beat Saints 1-0 at Stamford Bridge.

“He has a had a bad injury and come back well.

“He is quality and I wish him all the best in the future, that's all I want to say."
