Chelsea boss Rafa Benitez has joined the battle for Corinthians midfielder Paulinho.The Sun says Benitez will step up his pursuit of £11million Brazilian midfielder Paulinho this week.

Chelsea's boss will use the World Club Cup tournament for some Christmas shopping after hearing that Oriol Romeu is out for the season after knee surgery.

Paulinho plays for Corinthians today in their semi-final against Egyptians Al-Ahly and could play against the Blues in Sunday's final. Chelsea have been tracking the defensive midfielder for some time but were unable to complete a deal in the summer.

Manchester City and Inter Milan could challenge Chelsea for the talented 24-year-old.
