Chelsea boss Benitez: International calendar killing players

Chelsea boss Rafa Benitez has called on the international calendar to be upgraded.

Benitez is calling on FIFA and UEFA to reform World Cup and Euro qualifying so England no longer have to play minnows such as San Marino and save players from a schedule he says is "killing them".

The interim Chelsea manager said: "For me, one simple thing with the national teams is to create an A and B level. Why do you have to play 15 games when you have just two or three teams that are at the level of your team?

"Have an A level and a B level and then you play the B level and the best teams will play in the A level. It will be easier and you will have less games and less injuries.

"Now you have so many trophies and competitions, a man can play 25 games all around the world. It's killing your team physically."
