Chelsea boss Antonio Conte: No place for egos here

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte admits he has no time to accommodate player egos.

The ruthless Italian insists it is not his job to try to keep his entire squad happy by giving them all an equal opportunity to shine.

Conte said: “At a great club like Chelsea, the most important thing is to win — and not to have 21 players who are all happy. The owner doesn't ask for a squad of happy players that win nothing. And if the players want to be happy then they can go to the theatre or watch a film at the cinema.

“But here you have to fight every single moment for the team.

“And if the coach chooses another player then that means that he deserves to play.

“Of course a player is not happy when he doesn't start the game and it's not just John or Cesc or Pedro — it's everyone.

“I don't want players to be happy when they are not in the team. I want them to fight and give me problems to solve.

“This game against Wolves could be a good solution for me to pick John Terry and start to play him.

“He is working very well and I am pleased with his attitude and his behaviour.

He's showing to me that he is a great footballer and a great person. So I am pleased with this."
