Chelsea boss Ancelotti planning £30M bid for Spurs playmaker Modric

Chelsea will pull out all the stops to have Tottenham star Luka Modric running around in Blue next season. Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti met Modric's close pal Zdravko Mamic and told him the Spurs playmaker, 25, is top of his shopping list.

That was the sensational claim made last night by Mamic, the powerful Dinamo Zagreb vice-president, who engineered the Croatian star's £17million move to Tottenham.

Mamic told The Sun: "I was with Ancelotti for lunch. I was very proud when I heard what he said about Modric.

"Luka is top of his list, his first pick when it comes to new signings. I am not Modric's agent - I am just his friend - but I am very proud.

"I don't want to say anything more because I don't want to upset my friends at Tottenham."

Ancelotti is under pressure as his team have struggled in recent weeks and was reportedly increasingly fed-up with life at Chelsea.

But the move for Modric is a clear indication the Italian has no intention of quitting.

Owner Roman Abramovich has sanctioned a spending spree for next summer and Modric is the man Ancelotti wants to spearhead his Chelsea revolution.

Spurs boss Harry Redknapp will be bracing himself for a £30million bid from the champions.
