Chelsea boss Ancelotti: Man City stand alone as transfer market kings

Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti admits Manchester City stand alone in the transfer market.

Sheikh Mansour has spent over £400m in the two years since he took over, and City upped the ante last month by giving Carlos Tevez a whopping £230,000-a-week contract, raising the bar from the days when John Terry and Frank Lampard were the top earners.

And he believes City's spending power puts them on another level. "There is just one team that is above the others," he said. "Manchester City have spent a lot of money, and they did it to improve their squad. They were not so good in the past, but they used a lot of money to compete with the other teams.

"Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea, we all built our teams before this season and so we don't need to spend money in this moment.

"But City needed to spend money to take very important players, and get to the top and stay there.

"Pienaar was not our priority. There are a lot of players who would be happy to come here but we don't need to have this player [Pienaar]."
