Chelsea boss Ancelotti determined to prise Begovic from Stoke

Chelsea are planning a £5 million bid for Stoke City goalkeeper Asmir Begovic.

The Mirror says Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti sees Begovic as ideal back-up for Petr Cech and is ready to test Stoke's resolve to keep hold of the former Portsmouth man, who has usurped Thomas Sorensen to become Tony Pulis' first choice this season.

Ancelotti is ready to wait until the summer if Stoke are resistant but the Italian feels Begovic is the answer to the question that has dogged him throughout his reign, throwing the Chelsea futures of both Hilario and Ross Turnbull into doubt.

The Italian chased hard for Begovic over the summer.
