Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is being linked with an amazing 250m (£210m) bid for Barcelona star Lionel Messi over the summer.El Mundo Deportivo says a club backed by Adidas were willing to pay the fee, leading to speculation that Chelsea may have been the side involved.
It is unclear whether Jose Mourinho and Roman Abramovich would really have been willing to shell out such an amount to add Messi, even given Chelsea's problems up front so far this season.
However, Bayern Munich, where Messi's former manager at Barca Pep Guardiola is now in charge, have a long-standing relationship with Adidas and the German's have also been mentioned as the club that may have made the bid.
