Chelsea are regarded as more a likely destination for Xabi Alonso than Manchester United.
Xabi's future at Real Madrid remains undecided with his current deal due to expire in June.
The Mail on Sunday says United manager David Moyes would love to take on Xabi. But given how long Alonso played for Liverpool, such a move for the 32-year-old for a bargain would be hard for United to pull off.
Chelsea would also be interested in Alonso if he did move back to England in the coming window.
