CSKA Moscow are reluctant to lose both their talented attacking midfielders Keisuke Honda and Alan Dzagoev.
Dzagoev is back on the radar for Chelsea, while Honda is a January transfer target for Arsenal and Liverpool.
CSKA management will only consider selling one - and would prefer to maintain their relationship with Blues owner Roman Abramovich by sending Dzagoev to Stamford Bridge in the New Year.
Everything will depend on whether Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti sees the 20 year-old's signing as necessary when the market reopens.
