Chelsea are ready to sell Diego Costa in order to calm tension around manager Antonio Conte's situation.
The Mirror says former club Atletico Madrid will this week table a bid for him to return in January.
The Spaniards will propose an initial fee of £26m — £6m less than Chelsea paid for the player in 2014.
But with various performance-related add-ons they effectively plan to give the Blues their money back if a deal for the 28-year-old can be struck.
But while offers from China remain on the table, Costa is less open to a move there than he was six months ago.
With Atletico banned from registering players for six months, they will also ask that he is left out of the Blues' Champions League squad so he is not cup tied for the latter stages of the competition.
