Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard insists West Ham United defender Matthew Upson was not to blame for Egypt's opener in their defeat to England last night.
Lampard became the latest high-profile player to criticise the Wembley pitch. Three Lions team-mate James Milner had hit out at the surface after Sunday's Carling Cup final clash between Aston Villa and Manchester United.
And it again played a part when defender Upson stumbled in the build-up to Mohamed Zidan's shock opener.
Lampard said: "The pitch was definitely the reason why Matty slipped before their goal.
"The surface kept giving way, was very soft underneath and it should be better."
