Chelsea ace Frank Lampard scoffed at claims of attitude problems from teammate Danny Sturridge.

Accused of having a bad attitude in his youth at Manchester City, Sturridge certainly showed no signs of being l'enfant terrible during his loan spell under Bolton Wanderers boss Owen Coyle.

Lampard believes the 21-year-old's cockiness works to his advantage.

"His attitude is great," he said. "Sometimes people can mix up over-confidence with desire to do well. He will try things because he has confidence in his ability and that is great to see - otherwise you probably won't make it as a player. He wants to do well and I like it.

"I can see the look on his face - he wants to play. If he has not had his best game, he wants to make it better. That is what you need to be a top player."
