Chelsea ace Cole happy to battle Everton's Baines for England spot

Chelsea ace Ashley Cole is happy to battle Everton's Leighton Baines for the England left-back spot. Having extended his Chelsea contract until next year, he has not lost his appetite for international football, despite the form of Everton's Leighton Baines who, Roy Hodgson said, has "matured enormously".

"I am not going to quit just because someone is playing better than me," said Cole, speaking at a Vauxhall event to commemorate his 100th cap.

"Leighton is playing very well. He is having a great season. It is stiff competition but I've had it so many times with Wayne Bridge and other players who were going to take my place. I just get my head down and keep fighting for my place. If he is playing well and plays in front of me, it is going to benefit the team.

"It's not as if I'm going to start moaning or saying I should be playing. There will be a time when I'm not going to be first choice. It won't be a problem. I'm here to help the team. It's not about me."
