Deon Burton has signed a two year deal with Tony Adams at Azerbaijani outfit Gabala. The former Arsenal defender was recently appointed manager of Gabala, having been away from football since leaving Portsmouth in February 2009.
"This move ticks all the boxes for me," the former Jamaica international told skysports.com.
"I have played in the Premier League, the World Cup and now I have the chance to play abroad.
"They are an ambitious club and I am excited by the challenge.
"Obviously Tony Adams being there played a big part in my decision and I am looking forward to playing under him."
Burton has opted to move on after growing tired of waiting on Charlton Athletic, with whom he ended the 2009/10 campaign, to offer him fresh terms.
His agent, Darryl Powell, added: "We waited on Charlton but a deal failed to materialise.
"We were impressed by the ambition (of Gabala) after speaking to them and they have shown their ambition by getting Tony as manager.
"This is a new and exciting experience for Deon."
