Charlton Athletic have secured Jonjo Shelvey to his first pro deal after he turned 17 yesterday.

Shelvey is wanted by England's biggest clubs, including Arsenal and Chelsea, but Addicks boss Phil Parkinson said: "We're very, very pleased. He's an excellent prospect.

"I haven't seen a better 17-year-old in the country."

Romford-born Shelvey, whose has penned a two-and-a-half-year deal, said: "I'm on top of the world. It's everything I've dreamed about since I was a little kid and now it has all come true."
