English Championship club Charlton Athletic have installed former star defender Chris Powell as its new manager.

The 41-year old was a shock selection to take over at The Valley, impressing Addicks officials with his work as Sven-Goran Eriksson's number two at Leicester City.

Powell, who made over 250 appearances in three spells with Charlton during his playing days, takes over from Phil Parkinson who was released earlier this month.
