Charlton keen to keep Stoke's Soares

Charlton Athletic boss Phil Parkinson is keen on hold onto on-loan Stoke City midfielder Tom Soares.

Soares joined the Addicks in mid-January and his one-month loan deal will expire after Charlton's game against Plymouth Argyle on Saturday.

But the Championship strugglers are keen to extend the 22-year-old's stay.

Former Hull City boss Parkinson told News Shopper Online: "Tom wants to stay and it looks like Stoke will let him stay.

"I'm yet to officially speak to Tony, but that is looking positive and a final decision will not be made until the weekend.

"Tom is a good player. Obviously in his first game at Sheffield Wednesday he was off the pace.

"Like I said at the time, the pace of Championship football can catch you a bit cold when you've been playing reserve team football, but creatively he is getting up to the Tom Soares we know he is."
