Charlton confirm Zheng Zhi departure

Charlton Athletic have confirmed Chinese star Zheng Zhi will leave in the summer. The Chinese international's contract expires at the end of the season and the club will not be renewing the 28 year-old's contract due to financial constraints.

In an interview with Sina.com, assistant coach Mark Kinsella admitted Charlton have little choice but to let Zheng go.

"Zizi's contract ends at the end of this season, so I am expecting him to leave," he said.

"He is a quality player and we were never the same after he got injured. Had he been fit, we would probably be higher up on the table now.

West Bromwich Albion have been linked with the versatile midfielder, and Preston North End boss Alan Irvine recently told the Chinese media Zheng would make a "good signing."
