Charlton Athletic manager Chris Powell has urged the Football Association to implement American Football's 'Rooney Rule' in order to bring in more black and Asian managers.
The NFL currently use a rule where clubs are 'obliged to interview at least one black or ethnic minority candidate for senior coaching positions which was named after former Pittsburgh Steelers owner Dan Rooney who gained notoriety for giving African-Americans opportunities to serve in team leadership roles.
Powell feels this would be a good tool to use to introduce more black and Asian coaches to football in England but in the end suggests that there needs to be a solution to produce a balance.
"It's worked in America, and we do need everybody to get round the table and iron out issues in regard to that," he told Sky Sports News.
"I think regardless of your colour it is about the best person for the job. I think if someone is fully qualified and right to be interviewed they should be, regardless of their background.
"If this is going to improve matters for black and Asian coaches and managers that want to be involved in the game then fine.
"But it's not a matter of saying 'let's interview someone because of the colour of their skin' - you still have to be qualified and be the right person for that job.
"We should be round the table talking about the issues, trying to iron out the differences that could happen and why people might say 'it won't work here'. Let's talk about it and make sure we come up with the right solution."
