Charlie Adam admits Stoke City underperformed last season.
The Scotland midfielder also concedes he needs to be doing better.
He told The Sentinel: "I felt that when I played I contributed, we won games when I played, but overall as a group we underachieved. We know that and we'll set the standards again.
"Last season was a blip in four years but we have to improve because there's no way as a club and what we are and what we've got we're happy with that."
He added: "I'm at the age now, 31, when I still want to play for the next few years but I'm thinking about getting into coaching, media and they both interest me."
