Changchun Yatai moved into third-place on the Chinese Super League table with a 1-0 win over ten-man Shanghai Shenhua.
Cao Tianbao netted the only goal in the 31st minute to give the home side the ascendency and when Yu Tao was sent off in the 50th minute for a second bookable offence, the win seemed certain for Changchun.
The loss was Shanghai's second in a row and follows their defeat at the hands of Suwon Bluewings in the Asian Champions League on Wednesday.
The match was marred with bookings with ten yellow cards in all and one red.
