CHAMPIONS LEAGUE WRAP: Rostov upset Bayern, Arsenal held by PSG, Barcelona see off Celtic

Matchday 5 of the 2016/17 UEFA Champions League season was completed on Wednesday night.

In Group A, Arsenal missed the chance to finish on top as they were held to a 2-2 draw by French giants PSG at the Emirates Stadium.

The visitors took the lead through Edinson Cavani before Olivier Giroud responded from the penalty spot on the stroke of half-time. An unlucky own-goal from Marco Verratti had the Gunners head but a glancing header into the back of his own net from Alex Iwobi forced a share of the spoils.

Arsenal will now be relying on Bulgarian minnows Ludogorets Razgrad, who drew 0-0 with FC Basel, to get a result against PSG in Paris on December 6 when they meet Basel in Switzerland.

Group B is tightly poised with one match remaining following draws in each of the group matches.

Napoli are on top on eight points after a 0-0 result with Dynamo Kyiv while Benfica are only narrowly behind after giving up a three-goal lead to be held to a 3-3 draw by Besiktas in Istanbul.

The Matchday 6 between Benfica and Napoli in Lisbon could quite possibly decide who goes through to the Round of 16 as Besiktas get set to head to the Ukraine to meet Kyiv who have just two draws from their five matches.

Group C is already sorted after Barcelona eased past Scottish giants Celtic 2-0 in Glasgow.

A brace from Lionel Messi, either side of the break, saw the Catalan powerhouse confirm themselves as group winners, four points ahead of Manchester City, who drew 1-1 with Borussia Mönchengladbach in Germany.

And in Group D, FC Rostov caused an enormous upset by defeating Bayern Munich 3-2 in Russia.

Goals from Sardar Azmoun, Dmitry Poloz and Christian Noboa did the damage for the Russian Premier League runners-up who are now a huge chance of qualifying for the Europa League ahead of PSV Eindhoven who were defeated 2-0 by the unbeaten Atletico Madrid in Spain.
