CHAMPIONS LEAGUE WRAP: Real Madrid qualify with Man City and Man Utd both recording wins

Match-day 4 of the 2011/12 Champions League has been completed with tonight's matches involving teams from Group A through to Group D.

In Munich, German giants Bayern Munich skipped away to a 3-0 lead against Napoli courtesy of a first-half hat-trick from Mario Gomez before the Italians rallied thanks to a goal either side of the break from Federico Fernandez. Both teams lost players to red cards in the second half as Munich held out for a vital win which put them on top of Group A, three points clear of Manchester City who won 3-0 at Villarreal via a Yaya Toure brace and Mario Balotelli penalty.

In Group B, Inter Milan went four points clear on top with a 2-1 home win over Lille whilst CSKA Moscow and Trabzonspor kept their qualification hopes alive with a scoreless draw in Turkey.

Last season's runners-up Manchester United got the job done with a 2-0 home win over Otelul Galati as Benfica and FC Basel drew 1-1 in Lisbon in Group C whilst Real Madrid booked their spot in the final 16 thanks to a 2-0 result at Lyon courtesy of a Cristiano Ronaldo double and Ajax Amsterdam were far too good for Dinamo Zagreb winning 4-0 to move clear in second place in Group D.
