Champions League success shows Tottenham progress - Pochettino

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has said that his sides results in the Champions League this season is symbolic of the progress that they have made as a club.

Despite being in a group alongside Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid, Spurs have already qualified for the last 16 of the Champions League and need just three points from their last two games to ensure that they finish as winners of Group H.

The fact that they managed to record a convincing victory over Madrid who are regarded as the World's greatest club on paper, proves that they are moving in the right direction.

"We are qualified for the next stage, we are so happy for that," Pochettino said. "At the same period, one year ago, we were in Monaco, and after that game we were out of the Champions League.

"Now we are in the next stage. It is so important that the team has stepped up: in the Premier League we are in a very good position.

We are very disappointed because of the last game, but the expectation was different. We believed we were going to the Emirates to win. We are very disappointed, but we need to keep going."

"Our challenge changed because we were so good in the first four games, drawing in Madrid and beating them at Wembley.

"It is a massive achievement, and so good for the players.

If we can take first position and finish on top it is important. We are going to play with our best team, fresh players, not taking risks because their health is most important."
