Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea have shared honours in the first leg of their Champions League Round of 16 clash on Tuesday night.
The French giants and the Premier League leaders drew 1-1 at Parc des Princes in match which pitted Group F's second-placed side and Group G's winners against each other.
Jose Mourinho's Blues took the lead in the 36th minute with a powerful header from Branislav Ivanovic which was crafted by fellow defenders John Terry and Gary Cahill.
That kicked Laurent Blanc's men in to gear and they struck back less than ten minutes into the second half when Edinson Cavani got on the end of a Blaise Matuidi cross to deliver a headed effort of his own.
The tie is now evenly poised although you would suggest Chelsea slightly hold the key pertaining to their away goal which could come in handy during the return leg at Stamford Bridge on March 11.
In Tuesday night's other Round of 16 fixture, Ukraine's Shakhtar Donetsk held German champions Bayern Munich to a 0-0 draw at the Arena Lviv.
Shakhtar had not been in competitive action since their 1-1 group stage draw with FC Porto on December 10, due to their winter break, and it showed to a degree as they looked rusty and nervy throughout.
However, Mircea Lucescu's side were able to hold Pep Guardiola's Bayern outfit who just days ago hammered Hamburg 8-0 in the Bundesliga.
Bayern midfielder Xabi Alonso, in his 100th Champions League appearance, received a second yellow card in the 65th minute which saw the visitors reduced to ten men in sub-zero temperatures.
The two teams will resume their battle on March 11 at the Allianz Arena as Bayern look to move through to the quarter-finals for the fourth season in a row.
Wednesday night's Champions League fixtures sees holders Real Madrid head to Germany take on Schalke while FC Basel host FC Porto in Switzerland.
