CHAMPIONS LEAGUE QUALIFIERS: Celtic edge Elfsborg, Salzburg hold Fenerbahce

A handful of Champions League qualifiers were played on Wednesday night as the first leg of third round qualifiers were completed.

Scottish champions Celtic drew first blood with Swedish side Elfsborg, scoring a 1-0 win at Parkhead thanks to Kris Commons' 76th minute goals.

The Hoops will now head to the Boras Arena next week hoping they can maintain their advantage over Elfsborg as they look to emulate last season's Round of 16 effort.

Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg were denied a home victory over Turkish outfit Fenerbahce as Cristian Baroni netted in injury-time to cancel out Alan's 68th minute opener in their 1-1 draw.

Elsewhere, Norwegian club Molde were held to a 1-1 draw by Poland's Legia Warsaw, Cypus' APOEL Nicosia and Slovenia's Maribor drew 1-1 and Bulgarian side Ludogorets Razgrad surprised Serbia's Partizan Belgrade 2-1 at home.

The return legs of these five matches and those that took place on Tuesday night will occur next Tuesday and Wednesday.
