CHAMPIONS LEAGUE QUALIFIERS: Arsenal ease through as Schalke, Basel get job done

Arsenal are through to the group stage of the Champions League for a 16th straight season after navigating their way past Fenerbahce in the playoff qualifiers.

The Gunners beat the Turkish side 3-0 Istanbul last week before recording a 2-0 victory at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday night thanks to a brace from Aaron Ramsey.

The Welshman scored in the 25th and 72nd minute as Arsene Wenger's side won 5-0 on aggregate to secure their position in the initial 32 of Europe's premier club competition.

In Switzerland, FC Basel were able to get past Bulgarian side Ludogorets Razgrad with a 2-0 home triumph allowing them to move through 6-2 on aggregate whilst German club Schalke avoided a Greek tragedy by scoring a late goal to beat PAOK 4-3 over the two legs.

Steau Bucharest's two early goals at Legia Warsaw gave them an overall away-goal victory as they tied 3-3 with the Poles following the 1-1 draw in Romania last week whilst Dinamo Zagreb produced a 3-2 away win over Austria Vienna but it wasn't enough to progress with the home side managing to get through 4-3 on aggregate.
