CHAMPIONS LEAGUE: Marseille net injury-time winner over Inter

French club Marseille tonight netted a very late winner to defeat an unlucky Inter Milan 1-0 in the first leg of the Champions League Round of 16.

Andre Ayew popped up with a 93rd-minute header to give Didier Deschamps' men a slight advantage going into the return leg to be played at the San Siro on March 13.

The first half was a fairly low quality 45 minutes of football with only one real chance falling to Inter's Diego Forlan who should have done much better in the 11th minute, allowing Marseille keeper Steve Mandanda force the Uruguayan's shot over the bar.

Inter, who have now not scored for four matches, were anxious throughout the match and provided little going forward as Marseille pressed hard late to come up with a winner with the last play of the match as Ayew stooped to head home Mathieu Valbuena's corner despite being under duress from Cristian Chivu.

The loss was Inter's fourth in a row and sixth in their last seven outings in all competitions with pressure now being firmly mounted on manager Claudio Ranieri as Marseille extended their unbeaten run to 15 matches with just three of those being draws.
