CHAMPIONS LEAGUE: Lloris stars as Spurs escape Bayer Leverkusen with a point

Tottenham Hotspur have avoided defeat away to Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League.

Mauricio Pochettino's Spurs came away with a point from their Group E meeting with the Germans at the BayArena which ended in a 0-0 draw.

The North Londoners will have captain Hugo Lloris to thank as the French goalkeeper came up with a handful of crucial saves, including one absolute stellar stop to deny Javier Hernandez in the second half.

The amazing moment came when Chicharito had half the goal in front of him but somehow hit his effort directly at a scrambling Lloris who took possession of the ball as he rolled over, managing to keep one edge of the ball on the goal-line, which video technology showed.

Leverkusen pressed hard for a winner as the minutes ticked on in the second half but they were unable to get past Lloris and his defence.

Spurs had their chances, particularly in the first half, and namely when Kieran Trippier dropped a right-wing cross onto the head of Dele Alli but he nodded wide with the goal at his mercy.

Vincent Janssen was also agonisingly close to giving Spurs a first-half lead but his looping header hit the crossbar before Erik Lamela's follow-up was tipped over.

In the end, after Leverkusen's strong finish to the contest, Pochettino would have been happy to come away with a share of the spoils with the result seeing them occupy second place on the group table, one point behind AS Monaco and one ahead of Leverkusen.

The next match-day sees Tottenham host the Germans at Wembley on November 2 as bottom-placed CSKA Moscow pay a visit to Monaco.
