Aleksandar Kolarov suggests it is important that Manchester City improve in the Champions League this season.
The Eastlands club have failed to make it out of the group stage of Europe's premier club competition in each of the past two campaigns but Kolarov feels new manager Manuel Pellegrini will bring some positive influence to the camp ahead of Tuesday night's first fixture with Viktoria Plzen.
"I think the best gift will be three points," said Kolarov. "We'll give 100 per cent to make that present because it's a very important game for us.
"The manager had a lot of experience and did a good job in Spain so we're looking to do better every day and do better than last season. I'm sure the boss will help us to win something this season."
