CHAMPIONS LEAGUE - Group E: Chelsea top group with narrow win over Steaua

Chelsea have finished top of Group E in the Champions League courtesy of a 1-0 win over Steaua Bucharest at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues had already booked their spot in the Round of 16 prior to the match but managed to see off a late challenge from German club Schalke, who beat FC Basel 2-0, to ensure top spot and a seeded position in the draw.

Demba Ba score the game's only goal in the 10th minute when Oscar's flick-on from a Willian corner found him at the back post allowing the Senegalese to bundle home under pressure from Daniel Georgievski.

Despite the victory, Jose Mourinho's side were again underwhelming with their inefficiency in front of goal a glaring problem.

Mark Schwarzer was given a rare start in goal to become the oldest player to make his Champions League debut but had little to do as the Blues completed what they required to move on in Europe's premier club competition which they won in 2012.
