Champions League exit shows Barcelona rely too much on Messi - Swansea's Laudrup

Swansea City manager Michael Laudrup suggests former club Barcelona relies too heavily on Lionel Messi.

The Catalan giants were eliminated from the Champions League in the semi-finals 7-0 on aggregate by Bayern Munich with the Argentine maestro sitting on the bench for the second leg in Munich on Wednesday night.

Laudrup, who played for the Blaugrana between 1989 and 1994, feels that Tito Vilanova's side are basically run by Messi and when he is absent, their deficiencies are there for all to see.

"When they saw Messi was on the bench nobody thought it was possible to see a comeback (after a 4-0 first-leg defeat)," the Dane said.

"They have a great team but it's a little bit worrying that everything is related to the ability of Messi. Even if he is the best player in the world, it can be a problem."
