Arsenal have kicked off their 2013/14 UEFA Champions League campaign with a 2-1 win over Marseille at the Stade Velodrome on Wednesday night.
The Gunners travelled to France on the back of a five-match winning streak in all competitions and managed to stretch that to six by scoring twice in the second half to down Marseille on their home soil in their opening Group F fixture.
Arsene Wenger's side were lucky at stages but he would be thrilled to see his injury-hit squad pull off a 10th victory in a row on the road to give themselves a good chance to again progress from the group stages.
Theo Walcott gave the visitors the ascendency in the 65th minute when he met Kieran Gibbs' cross with a fine strike into the roof of the net before the in-form Aaron Ramsey added a second with a low finish with six minutes remaining for his sixth goal in six matches.
Substitute Andre Ayew converted an injury-time penalty for Elie Baup's Les Phoceens but the damage had already been done as Arsenal picked up an invaluable three points on the road.
