Bayern Munich progressed to the quarter finals of the Champions League with a comprehensive demolition of FC Basel, 7-0 on the night and 7-1 on aggregate. Basel had been unbeaten in their previous four Champions League ties, but that record came up against Bayern's home record in this competition of winning ten of their last eleven games.
The German's made no mistake with an eleventh win, in as one-sided a contest as the scoreline would suggest with Bayern just failing to equal Liverpool's record 8-0 Champions League win over Besiktas.
The first-half was totally dominated by the home side who, by the 30 minute mark, already had eleven attempts at goal but only had Robben's early effort to show for their endeavours.
Bayern then scored twice just before the break through Muller and Gomez with his first of four goals on the night.
Basel were then totally overwhelmed in the second period as Gomez hit three goals in 17 minutes and Robben added his second late-on.
Robben and Ribery were outstanding on the flanks for the Germans and Mario Gomez has now scored 18 goals in his last 13 Champions League appearances.
