Cesc to tell Arsenal boss Wenger he does not want to be Cup-tied from Champions League

Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas fears being Cup-tied from the Champions League for Barcelona.

The Daily Express says he is set to tell Arsene Wenger he does not want to play in Arsenal's Champions League play-off when the Gunners discover their opponents this morning.

Fabregas makes his first appearance for Arsenal since the start of his summer transfer saga in tomorrow's friendly against Benfica, but he is desperate not to ruin his chance of joining Barcelona by playing for the Gunners in Europe.

Barcelona are yet to match Arsenal's £40million asking price for Fabregas, but both the player and Pep Guardiola's European champions remain hopeful a deal can be struck before the end of the month.

And that is why Fabregas does not want to play for Arsenal in their two-legged Champions League play-off match, which will take place on August 16 or 17 and August 23 or 24.

Fabregas will tell Wenger he will continue to give his best for Arsenal in the Premier League while he waits on Barca to agree a transfer, but does not want to play in the Champions League.
