Javier Aguirre is currently in charge of Atletico and has led the club to sixth in La Liga so far this season after a seventh-placed finish last term.

But Atletico supremo Cerezo is determined to see the club competing in the UEFA Champions League and reports have linked with Mourinho with a role at Vicente Calderon.

The Portuguese is tipped to take on a post in Spain or Italy once he returns to coaching, and Cerezo acknowledged he would be keen to appoint the ex-Blues boss.

"Jose Mourinho is a great coach and Atletico is interested in big coaches," Cerezo told A Bola.
