Central Coast Mariners recruit Michael McGlinchey has earned a call-up to the New Zealand national team. The All Whites take on Jordan in an international friendly on September 9 and coach Ricki Herbert has added the 22-year old to his squad.

McGlinchey, who joined the Mariners from Celtic, is keen to impress Herbert so he can stake his claim for a berth in New Zealand's final World Cup qualifiers against Bahrain or Saudi Arabia in October and November.

"If I can get on and do well in Jordan hopefully Ricki will look at me for the World Cup playoffs and who knows after that," McGlinchey said.

"As a wee lad you grow up watching the World Cup and it's what every footballer wants to be a part of.

"If New Zealand can qualify over the two legs and I could get on the plane to South Africa then it would be a dream come true.

"But I can't get ahead of myself, hopefully get on and do well in Jordan, and continue doing well for the Mariners."
