After some strong recent performances, the unlucky Central Coast Mariners tonight host the Perth Glory at Bluetongue Stadium with renewed confidence. Coming off a 2-2 draw with league leaders Melbourne Victory after a goal from Archie Thompson in the dying seconds last week and having enough chances in the away game in Wellington the week prior, the Mariners look primed to take all three points in Round 6. However, their opponents, the Glory have found some good form after their first win of the year over the Phoenix on the weekend so the task at hand will not at all be an easy one. Mariners Football Manager Lawrie McKinna is expecting a win this week. He said, "We've had three really good performances on the trot, we drew against Wellington where we should have won and we should have won against Melbourne at the weekend, but that last four seconds cost us. "Some of the football that we're playing and the intensity that the team is playing with is good, I'm happy with where we're at, with a wee bit of luck we could be sitting near the top of the Hyundai A-League." With the only loss for the season so far being a 3-2 defeat at the hands of second-placed Sydney FC, the Mariners need to take their chances and turn narrow draws into wins to set themselves up for the remainder of the year. This means focusing for the entirety of a match and not switching off at any stage. "The boys know that the last few minutes against Melbourne was disappointing, but overall the performance as very good," McKinna added. "I was upset after the game and had a bit of a go at them, but in the next breath told them how well they'd done, because they did so well. "Perth this week will be a hard game, they proved it last year when they came to Bluetongue and physically dominated us for the first half before we won the game 1-0. "They're going to be big and solid, we need to be on our game and we need to be patient and we should do well." The Mariners welcome back striker Nick Mrdja to join a potent strike force consisting of Dylan Macallister, Sasho Petrovski and Matt Simon whilst the Glory have made only one change to their squad from their 1-0 win last week with young goalkeeper Tando Velaphi stepping down to take the reigns in the first round of the National Youth League, making way for veteran keeper Frank Juric who has been promoted.
