Central Coast Mariners stars consider moving abroad

A trio of Central Coast Mariners stars are considering moving abroad to further their chances of becoming Socceroos regulars.

Goalkeeper Danny Vukovic, midfielder Dean Heffernan and striker Matt Simon have all told the club they want to pursue opportunities abroad and several clubs are believed to be circling.

"Those three are all under contract for at least another year. Besides, we've only had an official offer on Matt Simon, and that was from Norway but he wasn't interested in going there," Mariners coach Lawrie McKinna said.

"There was also some interest in him from Korea and there was something unofficial from the USA but there was nothing genuine directly from a club. Matt would rather extend his contract here than go to Norway. Danny also extended his contract recently, and 'Heff' has another year or two to go as well.

"I suppose they have to be playing well enough for somebody to want to buy them, but it's true that they're keen to get abroad. They all want to get into the World Cup squad."
