Central Coast hopeful of snaring Carney

Central Coast Mariners are hopeful of signing Sheffield United winger David Carney. Carney has been out of favour at Sheffield and has had a public spat with manager Kevin Blackwell so it seems a move could be good for the 25-year old.

The Mariners are hoping to use their relationship with the club to secure Carney's services but at this point i his career it would seem an unlikely option.

"To be honest the chances are pretty remote and David has a whole range of preferred options and they are to remain in Europe," said Mariners chairman Lyall Gorman.

"But if nothing happens in January for him then we are hopeful we can maybe offer him something here.

"But we have to say it is less rather than more likely to happen."
